The VAN DER MERWE BUSINESS GROUP was founded by one of its directors, Ben van der Merwe, in the beginning of the year 2006.
1983 BEEKEEPING
Ben van der Merwe grew up in Phillipstown in the Karoo. In 1983 he started BEEKEEPING as a hobby. Today he is rendering a service to supply beekeepers tools, equipment, hives and protective gear. Ben is the Free State’s contact person for SABIO. His registration number with SABIO is FS095.
Bloemfontein Fire Brigade
In 1987 passed matric in Highschool Colesberg. In 1988 he started his studies at the University of the Free State.

Ben started out as a medical student but in 1992 decided to make a change. He joined the Bloemfontein Fire Brigade where he completed various courses in the 10 years he was there.
In 1998, Ben started his part-time Law studies. After he obtained his B.Proc. degree, he did his articles at Symington & De Kok Attorneys in Bloemfontein.
BEN VAN DER MERWE ATTORNEYS
In 2004, Ben started his owned practice under the name: BEN VAN DER MERWE ATTORNEYS.
In January 2005 the practice moved to the premises of 28 Brillstreet, Westdene.
Ben has been involved in a serious motorcycle accident and the practice closed down in 2014.
DIRECTOR
The other director of the VAN DER MERWE BUSINESS GROUP is Ben’s wife, Roelien, and mother of their four daughters, Benita, Bianca, Roedine and Roechelle. Roelien completed her B.Soc.Sc degree in 1994 and her M.Soc.Sc.degree in 1998.
She worked at Universitas Hospital for 15 years, until she resigned to become part of the VAN DER MERWE BUSINESS GROUP.
